Champagne

Champagne

Tasting Notes: Caramel, cherry, orange & christmas spice

Our festive blend is back! 'Champagne' is one of the horses from the original horsebox history. Each year we showcase a new coffee and create a simple blend in her memory. This always supports a charity close to our hearts as we donate 15% of online sales to the Abingdon Riding for the Disabled group. Find out more about this amazing charity here.

This year we are showcasing a natural processed coffee from the Tarrazú Co-operative in Costa Rica. 'San Lorenzo' is a community lot from a small village of the same name. As always find out more about the people, planet and flavour in the drop down menus below.

We've blended with a little of our house Brazil beans  'Vermelha'  as we found they complemented each other very well. We've then roasted to a medium-dark profile, to create a fuller body and more sweetness. It is perfect for espresso but also works well as a longer home brew, full bodied and comforting, full of flavour notes that are perfect for the festive season.

Please note that espresso grind is more precise than other grind methods. Each machine and coffee is unique, so we cannot guarantee this grind will work perfectly for your setup. We highly recommend home grinding for fresher coffee. Please contact us for grinder recommendations.

People

Since 2011, DR Wakefield Projects has helped raise over $115,000 for Coope Tarrazú, a producer-run cooperative of more than 5,000 members. Early funding went into shared essentials—repairing roads and bridges, improving water supplies, supporting schools, restoring a health centre, and building a playground—strengthening daily life and helping families stay rooted in the region. As infrastructure improved, the project evolved to meet new needs, shifting support toward upgrading producer homes and supplementing household income. Since 2019, around 75–80% of funds boost producer income, while 20–25% supports Casa de la Alegría, a harvest-season childcare programme for migrant picker families. With 10 centres, 31 staff, and care for 700+ children aged roughly 0–12, it provides safe care, meals, and play during the three-month harvest and helps prevent child labour.

Planet

Backed by the cooperative’s year-round agronomy support, training, credit access, and use of organic fertiliser, Community investment and stable incomes give producers the breathing room to reinvest in their land and livelihoods, while ongoing farm renewal—like the distribution of new trees—supports resilience across the Tarrazú landscape. In short, stronger communities make for stronger farms, and both are essential to the future of coffee in Tarrazú.

Flavour

In the cup, San Lorenzo showcases the flavour diversity of Tarrazú’s partner communities. This Natural coffee brings tasting notes of Cherry, orange and christmas spice and an overall caramel sweetness.
