Espirito Santo

Espirito Santo

Tasting Notes: Balanced, cocoa & nutty

We are very excited to present Espirito Santo as our new house Brazil. Again sourced direct through the Algrano platform.

Located in the Espirito mountains of the the state of Espirto Santo the co-operative was founded in 2019 by four children of coffee farmers.

Returning from studies they sought to reconcile their family's farming tradition with a more modern approach to speciality coffee and processing. They have brought together over 300 small holder farmers in the Espirito Santos mountain region, and they are as committed to sustainability and community as they are the quality of the coffee.

We are loving the sweetness of this well balanced coffee. We've roasted medium and it's delicious across all brew methods.

People

Farmers Coffee was born in 2019 thanks to the dream of four young people who sought to reconcile their family tradition, without losing the desire to bring something new and modern . Children of coffee producers and, therefore, inserted from an early age in the daily life of coffee production, Dério Brioschi Junior, João Paulo Marcate, Luiz Henrique Pimenta and Phelipe Brioschi knew firsthand the difficulties and pleasures of working on the plantations . This family experience allows Farmers to be more than a simple company, but rather an instrument that brings farmers and consumers together towards a common goal: quality from planting to cup.

Planet

The region is located in the Atlantic Forest biome , a tropical forest that is home to a unique biodiversity and heterogeneous vegetation, thanks to its extremely fertile soil , in addition to the varied climate. This allows coffee crops to be protected from the intense sun during the summer , which could damage their foliage and fruits, but also for other trees to be planted in communion with the coffee tree, thus preventing soil impoverishment . Farmers operate in a sustainable and ecological way in which the quality of the product is a direct reflection of the quality of life of the entire coffee cycle.

Flavour

The sloping terrain, the moist soil full of life, the vegetation that shades the crops, the mild climate: there is no doubt that the Espírito Santo Mountains are the ideal setting for the cultivation of coffee of impeccable quality and flavors that go beyond the traditional. The pulped natural process accentuates its sweetness. We then medium roast, creating a profile which maintains the coffee's balance and sweetness, and works well across all brew methods. This coffee is full of flavour, with low acidity, sweetness, medium body and a nutty character.

Our everyday brew!

We've been ordering this coffee since 2019 and love it for our morning cup of coffee, which we brew with a Chemex. It's well-balanced and makes a really delightful coffee that tastes great.

This is the first HorseBox coffee I have ordered. I make it as a long drink, black, a well heaped desert spoon per cup in a cafetière. It's not strong but is a really good flavour. It's now delivered on subscription.

Nice, smooth, easy drinking coffee, can definitely taste the milk chocolate notes. Never going to be a complex coffee but a good everyday coffee.
